oswaldo calderón
Oswaldo Calderón is an actor born and raised in Chicago. He studied Philosophy at Loyola and Northwestern Universities. He trained at the Chicago Actor’s Studio and Chicago Actor’s Center and continues to develop his acting experience in the permanent laboratory and workshops of Aguijón Theater.
His acting credits include Ferdinand the Bull for Goodman Theatre directed by Marcela Muñoz, Suite California, & Detective Story among other local productions.
He has been a member of the cast of Aguijón Theater since 2000, where his credits include: Los niños prohibidos written by Jesús González Dávila, Johnny Tenorio by Carlos Morton, Cálices Vacíos by Judy Veramendi, Perversiones by José Castro Urioste y Eduardo Cabrera, Bodas de sangre written by Federico García Lorca, Raul Dorantes’ Hasta los gorriones dejan su nido, Eréndira by Gabriel García Márquez (adaptación Juan Ramírez), Antígona by Sófocles, Epopeya of Abel González Melo, Animales nocturnos by Juan Mayorga, Sergio Blanco’s Kiev, La Pinche India by Norge Espinosa, amongst others…
In 2009, Aguijón Theater commissioned Oswaldo to write the play “Las Soldaderas”, inspired by the eponymous journalistic essay by Mexican writer Elena Poniatowska. The play premiered at Goodman Theatre’s V Latino Theater Festival that same year. After a six-week run as part of Aguijón Theater’s 2010-2011 season, the production was showcased at the XXII Festival Internacional Mujeres en Escena por la Paz in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2010.
In addition to his artistic activities Oswaldo is currently the company manager of Aguijón Theater.
