Born in Santo Domingo in 1977, Rey Andújar is the author of several works of fiction, including the novels Los gestos inútiles (Premio Alba Latinoamericano de Novela 2014-Cuba) and Candela winner of the Puerto Rico Pen Club Award in 2009, and adapted for film by Andrés Farías Cintrón. The movie has been officially selected in many festivals and won the Grand Jury Prize at Biarritz, France. He has published the short fiction collections Amoricidio (FIL-Santo Domingo Fiction Award 2006) and Saturnario (Ultramar Literature Prize NYC-2010). His performance Ciudadano Cero made the Official Selection at the Santo Domingo International Theater Festival in 2006 and was the inaugural performance at the Puerto Rican International Theater Festival in 2007.

Andújar is an Artistic Associate at Aguijón Theater, where he has performed, led workshops, and authored the plays Adverses and La Gran Tirana. He has written the scripts for the documentaries Isla de dos Repúblicas by Héctor Montás and Frank Moya Pons and Diáspora, by Héctor Valdéz. He holds a Ph.D. in Caribbean Literature and Philosophy from the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. His dissertation, Formas del ascenso: estructura mitológica en Escalera para Electra de Aída Cartagena Portalatín was published by Editorial Isla Negra and APEC University in Dominican Republic. Rey is a Cultural Liason for the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic and an Associate Professor of Spanish at Governors State University in Chicago.
