Elio Leturia

Born in Lima, Peru. He started acting at 16 at the University of Lima Theater Group with the Greek play The Oresteia. With Comunidad de Lima Theater he returned to the stage with When the Marionettes Spoke by the Theatre Workshop of Colombia. He wrote and starred in a theatrical adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s novella The Incredible and Sad Tale of Innocent Eréndira and Her Heartless Grandmother, receiving excellent reviews for his portrayal of the grandmother. In 1986, he played Pedrosa in Federico Garcia Lorca’s Mariana Pineda. In 2009, with Aguijón Theater, Leturia played the salesman in Mondays Falls on León Rodríguez, a play by Raúl Dorantes inspired by Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. An ensemble member since 2010, Elio’s other Aguijón credits include Sophocles’ Antigone, The Passion According to Antígona Pérez by Luis Rafael Sánchez, Jean-Paul Sartre’s La Putain Respecteuse and Orchids in the Moonlight by Carlos Fuentes.

Elio is a journalist and graphic designer and teaches multimedia journalism at Columbia College Chicago.
